Honda updates U.S. Civic Type R for 2027

Published 2 October 2026

Honda has updated the Civic Type R for the 2027 model year in the United States, adding chassis, braking, styling, cabin and technology changes while keeping the car’s 315-horsepower engine and six-speed manual transmission. The revised model is listed at $49,990 including destination, $1,300 more than the 2026 version. Honda has no plans to return the Type R to UK or European showrooms, according to reports citing the company’s position. The U.S. refresh centers on adjustments to the car’s front end and driving systems. Honda says a revised front fascia, larger grille opening and deeper splitter are intended to improve airflow and cooling, while the splitter also aims to increase downforce. Suspension damping in R mode has been retuned, and a spring added to the brake-pedal linkage is intended to reduce play and create a more direct feel. Honda has also recalibrated rev matching for quicker response during downshifts. The changes do not increase engine output. The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine continues to produce 315 horsepower, sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.
