Hegseth Says Hasan Execution Would Be Livestreamed
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said October 8 that the public would be able to watch the scheduled firing-squad execution of Nidal Hasan, and the Department of War confirmed the plan includes a livestream, according to reports. The execution is set for December 3 at 1 p.m. at Fort Hood, Texas, but has not taken place and could be delayed by a court challenge. Hegseth made the remarks in an interview with Jack Posobiec, saying people should understand the consequences of such crimes. The planned broadcast would show a military execution carried out by firing squad. Reports said the department confirmed the livestream plan, with further details to follow. Hasan, a former Army major, was convicted by a military jury in 2013 of 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder. The convictions stemmed from the November 5, 2009, shooting at Fort Hood, in which 13 people were killed and 32 others wounded. Hasan was sentenced to death and has remained on military death row. The announced execution date and time are close to the anniversary and approximate time of the attack, according to Hegseth’s remarks.
