Harrison Has Not Decided Whether to Retire After Nunes Fight
Kayla Harrison has not decided whether she will retire after her scheduled UFC bantamweight title fight against Amanda Nunes on November 14, saying she could walk away from the sport but is focused on the matchup. Her remarks leave open whether the bout will be her last, despite comments suggesting she may not compete much longer. Harrison, the reigning champion, is scheduled to face Nunes at Madison Square Garden in New York. The fight was originally planned for January but postponed after Harrison required surgery for herniated discs in her neck. The reports identify November 14 as the rescheduled date. In an interview, Harrison said she did not know whether the Nunes fight would be her last. She said she was already satisfied with her career and could leave competition at peace, but described facing Nunes as a challenge she wanted. Harrison said she believed the matchup would bring out the best in both fighters. Her comments followed a difficult recovery from neck surgery. On UFC’s Deep Waters program, Harrison said she had questioned whether she would feel like herself again, describing the procedure and its mental effects as difficult.
