Haaland urges Manchester City to unite after guilty verdict

Published 8 October 2026

Erling Haaland urged Manchester City to remain positive and united as the club prepared to resume its Premier League campaign after an independent commission found it guilty of more than 100 financial-rule charges. City have appealed the ruling and say they are innocent of the charges. The Norwegian striker made the appeal for unity in remarks to club media and Sky Sports on Thursday, October 8. He said the team should look ahead, focus on winning football matches and support one another. Haaland also said he cares about the club and its fans. City were due to play Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, October 11, in their first match since the verdict became public. The fixture is scheduled; the reports do not establish that it has taken place. Haaland described matches against Liverpool as special and encouraged supporters to enjoy the occasion. The commission found City guilty of more than 100 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules relating to the period from 2009 to 2018. Reports say the charges concerned the club’s financial conduct during those years. The detailed findings and the outcome of City’s appeal were not included in the available reports.
