GTA 6 Reveal Boosts UK PS5, Xbox Sales

Published 5 September 2026

The recent gameplay reveal for Grand Theft Auto VI on Netflix has spurred a significant increase in PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S console sales across the United Kingdom. In the week following the extended preview, sales for PS5 hardware rose by approximately 33 percent, while Xbox Series X and S sales saw an even larger jump of 34 percent. This surge comes as the highly anticipated game is set to launch on November 19, 2026. The reveal, which aired on Netflix on August 27, attracted over 31 million viewers, making it the platform's most-watched title that week. The increased interest has led to console shortages at several UK retailers, with some third-party sellers reportedly listing PS5 Pro models at prices significantly above their retail value as buyers scramble to secure a unit. This boost in hardware sales offers a welcome change for a market that had been experiencing a downturn. By the end of July, UK console sales were down 14.4 percent year-on-year, largely driven by a 32 percent decline in PS5 sales. Xbox Series X and S sales had shown modest growth of 3.1 percent during the same period.
