GTA 6 NPC Focus Doubles Animations, Avoids Trump Parody

Published 28 August 2026

Rockstar Games has revealed it established a dedicated team to craft more realistic non-player characters for Grand Theft Auto 6, a move that has resulted in the game featuring over 600,000 animations. This figure is double the amount found in Red Dead Redemption 2 and more than ten times the number in Grand Theft Auto 5. The development effort underscores the studio's push for unprecedented detail and scale in its upcoming title, set for release on November 19. In an interview with The New York Times, Rockstar North co-head Aaron Garbut explained that a new Los Angeles-based team of writers, directors, and producers was created specifically to focus on realizing NPCs. "We art-directed each individual one of them," Garbut stated. He described a meticulous process where every room and its inhabitants were handcrafted, with details extending to the pictures on the walls reflecting the characters' lives and the marks left on tables. This granular approach aims to achieve a deep level of interactive fidelity within the game's modern, densely populated environment. This focus on detail is described as an evolution of the systems Rockstar built for Red Dead Redemption 2.
