Groups Say Gaza Ceasefire Year Brings Little Relief

Published 10 October 2026

Humanitarian and human rights groups say conditions in Gaza remain severe one year after the ceasefire took effect on October 10, 2025, citing continued deaths, limits on aid and medical supplies, and the absence of reconstruction. A joint statement by more than 100 organizations reports that at least 1,471 Palestinians have been killed and 5,189 injured in Gaza since the ceasefire began. The groups said Israeli attacks and restrictions have continued despite the agreement. Human Rights Watch said aid levels remain far below what is needed, access routes have repeatedly been obstructed and reconstruction has not begun. The organization called for measures to protect civilians and enable rights-based recovery. The casualty totals in the joint statement are attributed to Gaza’s Health Ministry. The sources do not provide underlying records to independently verify them. The ministry’s figures cover the period since the ceasefire, while the joint statement also says more than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed since the conflict began in October 2023. The humanitarian picture includes widespread damage to housing and limited shelter.
