Government-linked wallets move $103 million in crypto
Wallets linked to the U.S. government transferred about $103 million in cryptocurrency on October 7, including 833.6 Bitcoin worth roughly $71.56 million to Coinbase Prime and 40,285 BNB worth about $31.63 million through intermediary addresses to an unlabeled wallet, according to blockchain trackers. The transactions do not establish that either asset was sold, and the purpose of the movements remains unclear. The Bitcoin was sent to addresses identified as Coinbase Prime deposits. The BNB followed a separate route and ultimately reached the address 0xBE781E, which has no identified owner in the reported transaction data. The two assets therefore did not both reach Coinbase Prime, despite some descriptions of the transfers as a single deposit. Wallet labels cited in transaction reports link the Bitcoin to assets associated with the Potapenko-Turogin case and the 2016 Bitfinex hack. The BNB was linked to assets associated with Alameda Research. Those labels provide context for the reported origins but do not, by themselves, establish the assets’ legal status or intended use. A transfer to Coinbase Prime does not confirm a sale.
