Cardano Foundation announces CIP-0113 live on mainnet

Published 7 October 2026

The Cardano Foundation announced on October 7 that CIP-0113, a standard for programmable tokens, is live on the network’s mainnet. It gives issuers who choose to use it the ability to set transfer rules for their own tokens, including identity checks, restrictions on recipients, and, where their rules permit, freezes or seizures. The controls do not apply to ADA itself or automatically govern every token on Cardano. The standard is intended for assets such as regulated stablecoins, funds and bonds, whose issuers may need to limit transfers to eligible holders or block addresses subject to sanctions. Under CIP-0113, rules attached to a token are checked by the Cardano ledger when that asset is transferred, minted or burned. Issuers can select existing rule modules or develop their own, and the framework does not require a hard fork, according to the Foundation. The Foundation named Eternl, GeroWallet, CardanoScan and BloxBean among tools supporting the launch. That support indicates initial technical integrations, but does not establish that tokens have been issued under the standard or show how widely it will be adopted.
