GM Reintegrates CarPlay and Android Auto in New Truck UI

General Motors is reintegrating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into its infotainment system through a new split-screen user interface, reversing its 2023 plan to phase out the phone-mirroring technology. The updated software will debut in the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks, with plans to expand it across the broader vehicle lineup over time. The new interface, announced on September 15, 2026, places phone projection in a dedicated window alongside native vehicle applications. This side-by-side design allows drivers to access CarPlay or Android Auto functions while simultaneously viewing vehicle controls, such as trailering data, climate settings, or diagnostic information. GM officials described the approach as a "sweet spot" that eliminates the need for drivers to choose between phone apps and the vehicle's own system. "We heard from customers that they want that same simplicity while still having quick access to everything their vehicle can do," said Mike Wahlstrom, GM's executive director of software product management. "Our next-gen UI brings those together in a cohesive way." The redesign also includes visual and functional updates.
