Glasgow’s maul powers 36-19 win over Connacht
Glasgow Warriors beat Connacht 36-19 at Scotstoun on October 9, scoring five tries to secure a bonus-point victory and preserve their unbeaten start to the United Rugby Championship season. Four of Glasgow’s tries came from driving mauls, and a late penalty completed the scoring after Connacht had threatened a second-half comeback. Connacht opened the scoring through Sean Jansen in the 14th minute, but Glasgow took control with its forward play. Hooker Gregor Hiddleston scored twice from mauls, while Rory Darge added another before halftime. Glasgow led 19-7 at the break after Sam Illo was sent to the sin bin for an infringement during a maul. Josh McKay scored Glasgow’s fourth try soon after the restart to secure the bonus point. Jamie Dobie broke forward before Dan Lancaster’s crossfield kick and a subsequent grubber helped McKay reach the line. George Horne converted, extending the lead to 26-7. Connacht responded with two tries from Josh Ioane, narrowing the margin to 26-19. The visitors’ momentum was checked when replacement Josh Murphy was yellow-carded.
