Garrett Admits Knee Injury After Quiet Rams Debut

Myles Garrett's debut for the Los Angeles Rams ended in disappointment on Thursday, as the star defensive end finished without a tackle or a quarterback hit in a 27-7 season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia. Brock Purdy threw three touchdown passes as San Francisco scored the game's final 24 points to hand the Rams their largest defeat since November 2024. Garrett, acquired from the Cleveland Browns in a blockbuster trade over the summer, acknowledged after the game that he was not at full health. He had missed much of training camp and recent practices to rest a knee, though the Rams' final injury report listed him without a game designation and coach Sean McVay said he would be ready to play. Before his flight back to Los Angeles, Garrett admitted the injury is more serious than he had previously let on, though he declined to say which knee is affected. The 30-year-old was blunt in his self-assessment. This was the worst version of myself that I've put out there, and I've got to be better, Garrett said. I've got to find a way to recover and get back to the player I know I can be and I've shown that I've been before.
