Fufore Chairman Yahya Saidu Dies Less Than Three Months Into Tenure

Yahya Saidu, chairman of Fufore Local Government Area in Adamawa State, has died less than three months after taking office, according to statements from local officials and political representatives. Reports place his death at a hospital in Kaduna, but they differ on whether it occurred Friday, October 9, or Saturday, October 10. Ahmed B. Yushau, the council’s information officer, said Saidu died in Kaduna and that further details about funeral arrangements would be communicated later. Yushau attributed the death to a brief illness. No medical details were provided in the reports. The Adamawa State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria also issued a statement expressing grief. Its chairman, Titus Obadiah, described Saidu as a committed leader and offered condolences to his family and the people of Fufore. Federal lawmaker Aliyu Boya Wakili, who represents the FuforeSong Federal Constituency, likewise confirmed Saidu’s death in a condolence statement. Saidu was sworn in as Fufore chairman on July 15, 2026, according to reports. His predecessor, Shuaibu Babas, died in office on April 23, 2025.
