FTC Expands Amazon Prime Settlement Refunds to $200

Published 19 September 2026

The Federal Trade Commission has expanded a $2.5 billion settlement with Amazon, increasing automatic refund eligibility and maximum payouts for Prime members affected by the company's deceptive enrollment and cancellation practices. Under a revised court order announced this week, the maximum individual refund has risen from $51 to $200, and eligibility now includes customers who used between 11 and 20 Prime benefits in a one-year period, up from the original threshold of fewer than 10 benefits. The expansion addresses the fact that as of September 2026, Amazon had issued only about $845 million of the $1.5 billion allocated for consumer redress under the original 2025 settlement. The revised order aims to ensure the full settlement amount reaches affected consumers. All future payments will be distributed automatically starting October 1, 2026, via Venmo, PayPal, or mailed check, eliminating the need for consumers to file claims or submit paperwork. Consumers who already received a refund under the original terms are eligible for an additional automatic payment of up to $149, bringing their total to the new $200 maximum.
