Four Dead, Four Rescued in Ilorin Building Collapse

At least four members of a family were killed and four others rescued when a multi-story building collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, Nigeria. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. at a residential building located at No. 41 Popo Giwa Street, adjacent to the Gogoro Mosque in the Masalasi Gogoro area of Ilorin West Local Government Area. Emergency responders, including the Kwara State Fire Service, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the State Emergency Management Agency, rushed to the scene to conduct search-and-rescue operations. Hassan Adekunle, the Public Relations Officer for the Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed the casualties. "Based on the situation report, now we've recovered four people dead and rescued four people alive," Adekunle stated. He noted that the agency received a distress call at about 5 a.m. and immediately mobilized to the scene. The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, who assessed the site, identified the collapsed portion as the boys' quarters of the main building. He stated that eight people were trapped in the incident and that all surviving occupants had been evacuated.
