Ford Fathom EV truck testing shown, under $30K

Ford CEO Jim Farley shared new images of the upcoming Fathom electric truck on September 1, 2026, showing prototypes undergoing hot-weather testing in the Nevada desert and driving through Las Vegas. The images offer the clearest view yet of the midsize electric pickup, which is slated to go on sale in early 2027 with a starting price under $30,000. The Fathom is designed to compete in the affordable EV market and is expected to slot into the compact truck segment, appearing closer in size to the Ford Maverick than the Ranger. Prototypes are seen with a colorful camouflage wrap, featuring an upright front end with a wide lower intake and midmounted headlights. The bodywork appears streamlined, with aerodynamically optimized wheels and traditional door handles. Details like rounded wheel arches and vertical taillights are visible, though much of the design is still partially obscured. Ford has confirmed that the Fathom will offer more passenger volume than the Toyota RAV4, providing ample interior space for occupants. Inside, the truck will feature a large touchscreen display with embedded Apple Maps for navigation, alongside Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
