FIFA reviews proposed payments to member associations

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has ordered a review of proposals for additional payments to the governing body’s member associations, while stopping short of approving any amount. The FIFA Council is scheduled to consider the assessment on October 15, with financial checks and formal approval still required before funds could be distributed. UEFA and CONCACAF have asked FIFA to provide at least $10 million to each of its 211 member associations. Their proposal concerns the 2027-30 cycle and would be in addition to existing development funding, according to the request described in the reports. The total would amount to at least $2.1 billion. In a letter to the presidents of FIFA’s six continental confederations, Infantino said he would support the greatest level of additional funding that could responsibly be delivered through the organization’s governance process. He said he would not prejudge the amount and directed FIFA’s secretary general to consolidate submissions into an assessment for the Council.
