FIA names AWS AI and cloud partner for future F1 rules
The FIA has named Amazon Web Services its Official AI and Cloud Computing Partner, giving the technology company a role in supporting the federation’s technical and engineering work, including development of future Formula 1 regulations. The partnership is intended to apply cloud computing and artificial intelligence across motorsport, from technical analysis to digital services. The FIA said AWS will provide AI tools to help its teams develop regulations intended to advance safety, performance and sustainability. The announcement describes AI as support for the FIA’s work, not as an independent rule writer or car designer. The federation already runs aerodynamic simulations using AWS high-performance computing. The process allows engineers to examine airflow around virtual cars without building physical components, and the FIA said it can help speed development while reducing costs and environmental impact. FIA deputy technical director for F1 Dominic Harlow said the current priority is to accelerate and support work led by people and engineers. He said generative AI would not currently be used to prompt car-design ideas. Harlow described possible use of AI models trained on...
