FBI wanted fraud suspect arrested in India

Manjit Singh Bedi, an India-born U.S. citizen accused of defrauding the federal government of at least $600,000 through a food benefits scheme, was arrested in Jalandhar, Punjab, on Friday, September 4, 2026. The capture marks the fifth arrest under the FBI's newly launched Most Wanted Fraudsters initiative. Bedi, 65, was apprehended by the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police in the Paragpur area of the city. According to authorities, he had been living in the United States since 2019 and was wanted in connection with a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits fraud case. The FBI alleged that Bedi operated the Asian Grocery Store in Tacoma, Washington, where he ran a scheme from March 2024 through June 2025. Investigators said he used customers' Electronic Benefit Transfer cards to process transactions for ineligible items, then provided cash to the participants while retaining approximately half of the benefits for himself, resulting in losses of at least $600,000. Bedi was indicted on federal charges of wire fraud and SNAP benefits fraud.
