FBI Seizes $560K Hamas Crypto, Disrupts Network

Published 5 September 2026

Federal authorities have seized more than $560,000 in cryptocurrency and dismantled key online infrastructure used by Hamas for fundraising and recruitment, the Justice Department announced Tuesday. The operation, led by the FBI, marks a significant disruption to the militant group's financial operations and its ability to solicit donations globally. The Justice Department stated that the FBI's Albuquerque Field Office, working with multiple human sources, traced and seized the cryptocurrency through three court-authorized warrants executed in March, June, and October 2025. This effort allowed investigators to move beyond simply tracing past transactions to actively intercepting new donations intended for Hamas. In parallel, separate warrants issued in July and August 2026 enabled the FBI to take control of domains and servers associated with AlQassam.ps, identified as the primary website for Hamas's military wing, the Al Qassam Brigades. By seizing this infrastructure, agents were able to redirect incoming cryptocurrency donations before they reached the organization and gain control over the fundraising channels themselves.
