FBI Director Kash Patel Was in Virginia, Not Russia

Published 14 October 2026

FBI Director Kash Patel was in Virginia on October 14, not Russia, and MS NOW reporter Ken Dilanian corrected his earlier report that Patel had landed there for a meeting. Dilanian said Patel remained in the United States and expressed regret for the error. The Federal Bureau of Investigation posted footage showing Patel at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where it said he was attending a law-enforcement appreciation event. The agency shared the video in response to the report, which had cited two people familiar with the matter. In a post accompanying the footage, the FBI said Patel was at Liberty University. Dilanian initially reported that Patel had landed in Russia for a planned visit. During his correction, he said the report had relied on two sources and that the FBI had not answered questions before the initial report aired. He said the timing of any potential trip remained unclear. The correction addressed the claim that Patel had already arrived in Russia on October 14. It did not establish whether a later visit was planned or canceled. The FBI footage and statement placed Patel at the Virginia event that day, while Dilanian said he had not landed in Russia.
