FBI Announces Another Suspected ShinyHunters Arrest

Published 9 October 2026

The FBI arrested another person suspected of conspiring with the ShinyHunters cybercriminal group, FBI Director Kash Patel said Friday, as investigators pursue those responsible for a breach of the bureau’s jobs portal. The FBI has not publicly identified the person or specified their alleged role or any charges. Patel said agents made the arrest earlier this week. Reports citing New York Times information placed it in Pennsylvania, but the FBI did not provide a location in Patel’s announcement. The reported location and further descriptions of the suspect’s role have not been detailed by the bureau. The arrest follows ShinyHunters’ claim last month that it broke into the FBI jobs portal and stole personal information belonging to current and former employees. The breach also affected people who had applied to work for the bureau, according to reports. The group said it did not intend to release the stolen information. The FBI has also said the breach stemmed from a security failure involving a contractor responsible for managing the jobs portal.
