EU adds nearly 1,600 Russia sanctions listings
The European Union adopted almost 1,600 new sanctions listings against people and companies linked to Russia’s military-industrial sector on October 12, in its largest single expansion of the bloc’s Russia sanctions list since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said. Kallas said more than half of the new listings are connected to the production chain for ballistic missiles used by Russia. The EU said the targets include people and companies suspected of supplying components for drones and missiles, as well as other links to Russia’s arms industry. The package brings the reported number of Russian officials and entities targeted by EU sanctions to more than 4,500, up from around 3,000. The new listings cover a range of industries, including shipyards, aviation and aerospace, electronics manufacturing, and facilities that repair armored vehicles, according to EU statements. The EU said some companies on the list are designated by the Russian government as part of the country’s military-industrial complex and are entitled to receive state subsidies.
