Erasmus makes six changes for Springboks second Test

Published 24 August 2026

South African rugby coach Rassie Erasmus has announced a six-player change to his Springbok matchday squad for the second Test against New Zealand in Cape Town on August 23, framing the adjustments as part of a process of self-assessment following their 33-16 first Test loss in Johannesburg on August 16. The most significant personnel change involves the addition of 39-year-old utility forward Deon Fourie on the bench, marking his first Test appearance since the 2023 Rugby World Cup final. The changes include starting flyhalf Handré Pollard ahead of Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, who retains a place on the bench, and scrumhalf Cobus Reinach moving into the starting lineup.
