England Names Australia Squads as Archer and Bethell Return

Published 13 October 2026

England has named 16-player squads for both the one-day international and Twenty20 international series on its scheduled tour of Australia, with Harry Brook captain of each side. Jofra Archer and Jacob Bethell return to the ODI group, while the T20I squad includes four uncapped players. Bethell is back after recovering from a knee injury sustained during the ODI series against India in July. Archer also returns to the ODI squad after a rest. The announcement described Jos Buttler as unavailable while recovering from hamstring surgery and said Saqib Mahmood misses out because of a knee injury. The T20I squad includes wicketkeeper-batter Thomas Rew and Eddie Jack, each receiving a first England call-up. Rew, 18, is the youngest player named. He captained England’s Under-19 team to the World Cup final in February, according to the squad coverage. The group also includes Phil Salt, Aneurin Donald and Luke Wood. England selector Marcus North said Archer, Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker and Josh Tongue would leave the tour after the ODI series to manage their workloads before the Test tour of South Africa. All four are included in the ODI squad.
