Dungeons & Dragons Sequel Seeks New Studio Partner

A sequel to the 2023 fantasy film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves remains in development, though it requires a new studio partner after Paramount Pictures declined to finance the project. Directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein confirmed they have completed a screenplay for the follow-up, with rights holder Hasbro actively seeking a production partner to bring it to the screen. The original film, which starred Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, and Hugh Grant, was released on March 31, 2023. Despite strong critical reviews and a dedicated fanbase that grew after its theatrical run, it underperformed commercially, earning $208.2 million worldwide against a production budget of $150 million. Paramount subsequently passed on funding a sequel for financial reasons. Speaking on The Discourse podcast from The Playlist, Goldstein stated that Hasbro remains committed to the franchise. "I think Hasbro is a big believer in it, and if they can figure out a studio partner to make it work, they'll want to proceed. As are our producers," he said. Daley acknowledged the financial challenges but expressed pride in the completed script.
