Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra Overhauls Gameplay to Third-Person

Published 31 August 2026

Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra, the free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena game based on the popular anime franchise, is undergoing a fundamental transformation that will shift it from a MOBA to a third-person fighting game. The overhaul, announced during the game's first anniversary celebrations in late August 2026, is planned for implementation by the end of the year. Developer Bandai Namco Entertainment stated the decision stems from a significant skill gap between veteran players and newcomers, which led to a poor experience for beginners and contributed to player attrition. In a developer letter, the team acknowledged that the game's "strategic depth and knowledge-based mechanics" created a noticeable divide in player literacy. The goal of the overhaul is to make the game more accessible while retaining strategic elements for experienced players. The most prominent change will be a shift from the game's signature top-down perspective to a closer, over-the-shoulder third-person camera. This aims to make battles feel more dynamic and immersive. Alongside this, the game's rules and maps will be redesigned around simpler win conditions and a more action-focused experience.
