Dortmund loan Arsenal winger Nwaneri for 2026-27 season
Borussia Dortmund have completed the loan signing of Arsenal winger Ethan Nwaneri for the 2026-27 season, a move finalized on September 1, 2026, the final day of the summer transfer window. The 19-year-old England Under-21 international will spend the campaign in the Bundesliga, with Dortmund covering his entire salary. The deal is a straightforward loan with no option for a permanent transfer, preserving Arsenal's long-term control over the player's future. The transfer was accelerated by a significant injury blow for Dortmund. Greek forward Giannis Konstantelias, a key summer signing, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his debut for the club during a 2-0 victory over Hamburg on August 23, 2026. The injury ruled him out for the majority of the season, prompting Dortmund to urgently seek attacking reinforcements. According to Dortmund's managing director for sport, Lars Ricken, the club had been interested in Nwaneri prior to the injury but prioritized the move afterward. "Due to Giannis Konstantelias' extended absence, it was important for us to strengthen our squad again in the short term," Ricken stated. "For us, signing Ethan was the best possible sporting solution.
