DeLorean to enter Airspeeder electric aircraft racing
DeLorean Motor Company has announced it will enter the Airspeeder International Series, becoming the competition’s first American constructor. The DeLorean Airspeeder Team is scheduled to debut when the 2026-27 season opens in November 2026, racing electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft on three-dimensional courses rather than conventional tracks. For its debut season, the team is expected to use Airspeeder’s standardized Mk3C aircraft. DeLorean’s initial role is focused on styling and branding, not developing a new airframe. The announcement does not describe a consumer flying car; it concerns participation in an aircraft racing series. DeLorean plans to expand its engineering role for the 2027-28 season, working with engineering students from UC Berkeley and Georgia Tech on a future racing aircraft. The company has not yet detailed the design or the universities’ specific responsibilities. DeLorean said further information about the partnership is expected in the coming months. Airspeeder describes its races as three-dimensional courses marked by virtual or electronic gates.
