Delhi High Court issues notices in two actors’ rights suits
The Delhi High Court issued summons and notices on personality-rights suits filed by actor and Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut and actor Vijay Deverakonda, and indicated it would consider their requests for interim injunctions. The actors’ claims concern alleged misuse of their identities and online material; the court has not ruled on whether the alleged violations occurred. Justice Vikas Mahajan heard preliminary submissions in both cases on October 8. The notices seek responses from defendants, including social media intermediaries and others accused in the suits. The court said it would issue orders on the interim requests, with Ranaut’s case listed for February 3, 2027, and Deverakonda’s for February 2, 2027. Ranaut’s lawyer told the court that her suit targets alleged fake news, obscene or pornographic material and AI-generated content that falsely attributes statements to her. Her counsel said he was not seeking removal of satirical content at this stage. The judge questioned whether some material was satire, and the lawyer confirmed that he was not pursuing relief against it for now.
