Delhi court denies bail to PG operator in building collapse case

A Delhi court on Thursday denied anticipatory bail to advocate and paying guest operator Shubham Tyagi, who surrendered on Friday in connection with the Satya Niketan building collapse that killed seven people. The court sent Tyagi to two-day police custody, stating his custodial interrogation was required to investigate the larger conspiracy. The five-story building in south Delhi, operated as a hostel named "Hostel Daze," collapsed on September 6, killing five students and two laborers. Tyagi had been absconding since the incident before surrendering at the Patiala House Court. Additional Sessions Judge Saurabh Partap Singh Laler denied Tyagi's pre-arrest bail, noting he had suppressed a rent agreement showing him as a lessee of the building's second and third floors. The court observed that Tyagi and co-accused Sudhanshu Lovneesh had signed as witnesses on each other's documents, indicating a joint venture. The judge stated that a person renting out floors as a paying guest house for students assumes responsibility for the building's condition.
