Delhi airport waterlogged as flights delayed, diverted

Heavy rainfall on Friday afternoon caused significant waterlogging at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, disrupting flight operations and leading to numerous delays and diversions. The downpour inundated the approach roads and forecourts of Terminals 2 and 3, with some reports indicating excess water also entered parts of the terminals before being cleared. The deluge occurred as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for intense rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across the national capital. The IMD's short-range forecast predicted spells of light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, between 2:15 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. on Friday, with heavy rain expected in isolated locations. In response to the adverse weather conditions, at least nine flights were diverted from the airport between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Four of these flights were rerouted to Jaipur, another four to Lucknow, and one to Ahmedabad. Additionally, over 400 flights experienced delays due to the weather.
