Torrential rain and thunderstorms unleashed deadly flash floods across eastern Spain earlier this week, resulting in at least one death and significant disruptions to travel, schools, and daily life. The severe weather prompted widespread emergency responses and warnings from authorities. The victim was a man who died after his car was swept away by floodwaters in Olivella, a town approximately 40 kilometers west of Barcelona. Rescue teams recovered his body from the vehicle, correcting initial reports of a missing woman. The incident occurred amid intense rainfall that battered the region. In Valencia, rainfall exceeded 70 millimeters in just 30 minutes in several municipalities, causing flooding that forced the closure of the city's airport for several hours. Twelve flights were diverted, and metro services were suspended. Emergency services in Valencia recorded 478 weather-related incidents, including property damage and traffic disruptions. Firefighters responded to over 250 callouts, with tree branches damaging vehicles in parts of the city.
