Dawood Safi ordered held indefinitely in secure hospital
Dawood Safi was ordered detained indefinitely in a secure hospital after a judge found he was psychotic when he fatally stabbed Wayne Broadhurst and attacked two other people in Uxbridge, west London. Safi admitted manslaughter by diminished responsibility for Broadhurst’s killing and was convicted of attempting to murder his landlord, Shahzad Farrukh. The order was made Monday at Southwark Crown Court. The attacks began at Safi’s home on October 27, 2025. Farrukh was stabbed with a large kitchen knife and survived; a 14-year-old boy was also injured after intervening. Safi admitted causing actual bodily harm to the boy and possessing the knife. A jury could not reach a verdict on whether he attempted to murder the teenager. Broadhurst, 49, was walking his dog when Safi stabbed him in the street. He died at the scene. Broadhurst worked as a street cleaner for Ealing Council. Judge Mrs Justice Cutts said he had been attacked in a random assault and acknowledged the devastating effect of his death on his family. The judge ordered Safi, 28, held indefinitely in a secure hospital for treatment, rather than imposing a prison sentence.
