Supreme Court gives Rajpal Yadav until Tuesday to pay
The Supreme Court on Monday gave actor Rajpal Yadav until Tuesday, October 6, to make a court-ordered payment in cheque-bounce cases brought by Murali Projects, and scheduled the matter for a hearing on Wednesday, October 7. The bench said its September 15 direction to deposit Rs 2 crore had not been met. It did not dismiss Yadav’s appeal, saying that could undermine the complainant’s opportunity to recover money. During the October 5 hearing, Yadav’s counsel presented demand-draft paperwork and said it was being processed by a bank. Accounts of the hearing differ on whether the material shown was one Rs 50 lakh draft or photocopies of four drafts of that amount each. The bench questioned whether the paperwork was genuine, while the complainant’s lawyer challenged its reliability. The court nevertheless gave Yadav another day to comply. The hearing concerned Yadav’s challenge to cheque-related criminal cases arising from a financial dispute with Murali Projects. The company alleges it provided Rs 5 crore in 2010 for a film project and that an agreement reached in 2012 required Yadav, his wife and their company to repay about Rs 11 crore, including interest.
