Davis faces sentencing in Tupac Shakur murder

Published 13 October 2026

Duane “Keffe D” Davis is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday after a Nevada jury convicted him of first-degree murder in the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur. Davis faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. He has said he intends to appeal. The August verdict made Davis the only person charged in Shakur’s death. Prosecutors argued that Davis orchestrated the shooting and supplied the gun, but did not accuse him of firing the shots that killed Shakur. Who fired those shots has not been conclusively established. The trial centered heavily on Davis’s own accounts. Prosecutors relied on statements he made to law enforcement and in interviews, as well as his 2019 memoir, in which he described his role in the events. They argued the shooting was retaliation after Shakur and members of his entourage beat Davis’s nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, earlier that night. Davis’s defense challenged the reliability of his accounts, arguing they were financially motivated and that physical evidence did not connect him to the crime.
