Cummins says Australia has moved on from ball-tampering scandal

Published 8 October 2026

Australia captain Pat Cummins said the team has moved on from the 2018 ball-tampering scandal and is comfortable with Usman Khawaja telling his account in an upcoming memoir. Cummins said Khawaja had given him advance notice about the book, but did not discuss its contents in detail. Speaking before Australia’s first Test against South Africa in Durban, Cummins said Khawaja had contacted him a few weeks earlier to say he was writing a book. Cummins said he responded that Khawaja could tell his story, adding that the investigations into the scandal had been completed at the time and that the team had answered questions about it repeatedly. Khawaja’s memoir, titled Sabr: Finding My Way in Cricket and Life, is scheduled for publication in November 2026. The book’s contents have not been publicly disclosed. Reports differ on whether its scheduled release date is November 3 or November 10, so the exact day is not established by the available information. Cricket Australia chief executive Todd Greenberg also confirmed that Khawaja had briefed him and Cummins before the team travelled to South Africa.
