Control Resonant Launches With Melee Combat and Open-World Manhattan

Published 18 September 2026

Remedy Entertainment's sequel Control Resonant launches on September 24, 2026, marking a bold genre shift for the studio. The game replaces the first title's third-person shooter combat with a melee-focused system and expands the setting from the contained Oldest House to an open-world Manhattan. Control Resonant follows Dylan Faden, brother of the original game's protagonist Jesse Faden, seven years after the events of Control. Dylan, once the antagonist, is now a reluctant protagonist tasked with helping the Federal Bureau of Control contain the Hiss, a paranatural entity that has escaped into New York City. He searches for his missing sister while confronting his past. The core gameplay change centers on Dylan's weapon, the Aberrant, a shapeshifting melee tool that replaces the Service Weapon from the first game. The Aberrant can switch between forms like a Balanced Axe, Speed Tonfas, and Power Glaive, with unlockable secondary forms. This system encourages a fast-paced, aggressive combat style without a traditional parry mechanic, focusing instead on dodging and movement abilities.
