The Los Angeles Clippers have hired attorney John S. Gibson as their interim CEO and governor, effective immediately, following the NBA's suspension of owner Steve Ballmer for salary cap circumvention. The appointment, announced Monday, September 21, 2026, places Gibson in charge of the team's basketball and business operations and as its representative in league governance matters. Gibson's hiring comes after the NBA levied severe penalties against the franchise for what the league called a pattern of misconduct involving former star Kawhi Leonard. The punishments include a one-year suspension for Ballmer, a $30 million fine, and the forfeiture of five first-round draft picks. President of business operations Gillian Zucker also received a one-year suspension, while president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank was suspended for six months.
