Bungie restores vaulted Destiny 2 content after trust loss

Published 22 September 2026

Bungie acknowledged on September 21, 2026 that it has lost players' trust and announced plans to restore vaulted Destiny 2 content while evolving Marathon into a deeper survival experience. The statement came in a blog post and video from studio head Poria Torkan and head of product and Marathon general manager Josh Deane. The announcement marks a reversal from Bungie's earlier decision to end active support for Destiny 2. The studio had announced in May that the Monuments of Triumph update would be the game's final content update, a decision that drew significant player backlash. Bungie said the response "made a real impact" on the studio. In the post, Bungie's leadership wrote that "over the last few years, we lost sight of that, and there have been real consequences. We lost trust, we lost incredible colleagues, and we lost sight of what we should be prioritizing most, our players." The statement added, "We are not done with Destiny." The first concrete step Bungie outlined is restoring Destiny 2's vaulted campaigns, destinations, and raids.
