Britain to Fast-Track Missiles for Ukraine Ahead of Zelensky Meeting
Britain said it would fast-track £10 million of a £45 million surface-to-air missile package for Ukraine and prepare further sanctions and support, ahead of a planned meeting between Prime Minister Andy Burnham and President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday, October 14. The British government said the accelerated deliveries are intended to address Ukraine’s urgent defense needs and include Lightweight Multirole Missiles, which are used against jet-powered drones. The wider package is part of Britain’s planned military assistance to Ukraine. The deliveries have been announced but are not described as completed. Burnham has asked officials to prepare additional sanctions, military assistance and financial support for Ukraine, according to the government. The reports do not specify what measures will ultimately be approved or when they will be announced. The planned Downing Street meeting is presented as a public reaffirmation of British support for Kyiv. In a statement ahead of the visit, Burnham said Britain would continue its support and described it as important for the country’s security and for Ukraine’s defense.
