Bombay High Court grants Samantha Ruth Prabhu interim protection
The Bombay High Court has granted Samantha Ruth Prabhu interim protection against unauthorized use of her name, image and voice, including in artificial-intelligence deepfakes, and ordered the removal of flagged content. The order, issued by Justice Madhav Jamdar on October 1, is part of a suit in which the actor seeks protection of her personality rights. It is an interim measure, not a final ruling on the claims. The court restrained publication of objectionable material using Prabhu’s identity without authorization. The content at issue includes AI-generated deepfakes and morphed images, according to the case materials described in reports. Her lawyer also raised concerns about AI-generated voice material, obscene videos and interactive chatbots. The reports do not specify the full list of content covered by the removal direction or how extensively it has been taken down. In its order, the court said the material presented appeared prima facie to indicate violations of Prabhu’s personality and publicity rights. It referred to protections under the Constitution, including the rights to freedom of speech and expression, privacy, life and personal liberty, and human dignity.
