Blizzard Shadow Drops New Warcraft 3 Expansion After 23 Years

Blizzard Entertainment has released a new expansion for Warcraft 3: Reforged, titled Forsaken Kingdom, in a surprise announcement at BlizzCon 2026. The expansion, which was shadow-dropped on September 12, 2026, marks the first official new campaign for the real-time strategy game in over 23 years, following the release of The Frozen Throne in 2003. The Forsaken Kingdom expansion is a substantial addition, offering more than 30 hours of gameplay. Its narrative focuses on the Forsaken undead faction, the establishment of the Undercity, and key Warcraft characters including Sylvanas Windrunner and Arthas. The campaign is described as a two-part story that begins with a prologue about Arthas and then delves into the Undercity's origins and conflicts with the Scarlet Crusade. Alongside the paid expansion, Blizzard released a free major update for Warcraft 3: Reforged. This update includes a new definitive edition graphics mode, improvements to the world editor, bug fixes, and the ability to select up to 24 units at once.
