BJP links Neha Bora remarks to regime change allegation

Published 15 October 2026

The Bharatiya Janata Party accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his supporters of seeking Bangladesh-style unrest in India, citing remarks by student activist Neha Bora and lawyer Prashant Bhushan. The BJP presented the comments as evidence of a push for regime change, but the supplied accounts do not independently establish its allegation of a coordinated effort to provoke unrest. Bora, president of the All India Students Association, praised Bangladesh’s 2024 youth movement in remarks reported on October 14. She said the movement had inspired young people in India to mobilise around democratic and voting rights, and expressed solidarity with Bangladeshi students. Her comments were reported as a video message or address to a student conference. At a press conference attended by Bora and Abhijeet Dipke, Bhushan said there would be a change of government and that he supported one. He argued that calling for regime change was legitimate in a democracy, and said the BJP had also protested against governments in the past.
