Berkshire lifts Lennar stake above 10% worth $1.8 billion

Published 22 September 2026

Berkshire Hathaway disclosed in a securities filing that it bought Lennar shares over several trading days ended September 21, 2026, lifting its stake above the 10% ownership threshold to about 23.7 million Class A shares plus roughly 528,000 Class B shares, worth approximately $1.8 billion. The purchases, executed through insurance subsidiaries controlled by Berkshire, totaled about $212 million during the five-day period from September 17 through September 21, 2026, at prices averaging between $74.80 and $79.41 per share. Filings detail individual transactions of 695,014 shares on September 17 at $78.98, 1,381,397 shares on September 18 at $76.48, and 667,118 shares on September 21 at $77.74. Warren Buffett appears as the reporting individual but has disclaimed beneficial ownership except for his direct personal stake. Because Berkshire's ownership now exceeds 10%, federal regulations require ongoing transaction disclosures under Section 16 of the Securities Exchange Act. Lennar shares rose on the news, climbing as much as 6.6% intraday Tuesday to a high of $83.24, after advancing about 2.3% in premarket trading. The stock has fallen more than 30% over the past year.
