BCCI reviews India cricket team performance and 2027 World Cup plans

India's top cricket officials and team leaders gathered at the Board of Control for Cricket in India headquarters in Mumbai on Thursday for a high-stakes review meeting to assess the national team's recent poor performances and chart a strategic roadmap leading to the 2027 ODI World Cup. The meeting, convened by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, brought together head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, Centre of Excellence head VVS Laxman, and captains Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. The session was called to address a series of disappointing results, including a 2-0 T20I series whitewash by Ireland in June and a 4-0 loss to England in the subsequent five-match T20I series. India also lost the ODI series against England 2-1 under Gill's captaincy. These defeats prompted Saikia to announce a review immediately after the England tour, but the meeting was postponed due to the team's Test tour of Sri Lanka. A central topic of discussion is the future of former captain Rohit Sharma in the ODI format.
