BCCI denies second-string squad for Asian Games, cites venue concerns

Published 28 August 2026

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has firmly denied reports that it would send a second-string squad to the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, stating that a full-strength team will compete. However, the board acknowledged ongoing concerns about venue facilities and said a final decision could be influenced by an upcoming inspection. A BCCI source confirmed that while the board and the Asian Cricket Council are unhappy with certain arrangements in Japan, the current plan is to field the strongest possible teams. "BCCI and ACC are not happy with the facilities and arrangements in Japan, and the board will send an observer there," the source said.
