Asian Games close in Nagoya as Doha receives 2030 handover
The 20th Asian Games closed in Nagoya on Sunday, October 4, with the Olympic Council of Asia’s president formally declaring the event over and the host handover made to representatives of Doha, scheduled to stage the Games in 2030. India finished fourth in the final medal standings with 85 medals, including 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze. The closing ceremony took place at Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, also identified as Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium. Indian trap shooter Neeru Dhanda was selected as one of India’s flagbearers. She won two gold medals and a silver during the Games: gold in the women’s individual trap and mixed team trap events, and silver in the women’s team trap competition. China topped the standings with 341 medals, 169 of them gold. Host nation Japan was second with 269 medals, including 83 gold, while South Korea placed third with 150 medals, 39 of them gold. The ceremony’s handover to Doha marked the transition to preparations for the next edition, which is scheduled for 2030. The Games brought together athletes and officials for competition across a broad programme.
