Analog Devices agrees to buy Alif Semiconductor for $1.35B
Analog Devices announced Wednesday it has agreed to acquire Alif Semiconductor for $1.35 billion in cash, with the potential for an additional $200 million in contingent payments. The deal aims to enhance Analog Devices' capabilities in low-power, on-device artificial intelligence processing for physical systems. Alif Semiconductor specializes in developing low-power processors and microcontrollers designed for on-device AI, sensor fusion, connectivity, and security. These chips integrate processing power, security safeguards, and connectivity features while consuming minimal energy, enabling machines to analyze sensor data and make decisions locally without relying on distant servers. The acquisition is expected to close by the end of 2026, pending regulatory approvals, including the expiration of the Hart-Scott-Rodino antitrust waiting period. Analog Devices plans to combine Alif’s digital processing capabilities with its own strengths in sensing, signal processing, power management, and connectivity.
