Aldi to close all UK stores on Boxing Day 2026

Published 4 September 2026

Aldi has confirmed that all of its more than 1,000 stores across the United Kingdom will be closed on Boxing Day, December 26, 2026, to give staff time off during the festive period. The discount supermarket chain announced the closure, which will also apply to Christmas Day and New Year's Day, as a gesture of appreciation for its employees' hard work during one of the busiest times of the year. The decision means Aldi stores will shut on December 25 and 26, reopening on Sunday, December 27. They will then close again on New Year's Day, January 1, 2027, before welcoming customers back on Saturday, January 2. In the days leading up to Christmas, many stores are expected to extend their opening hours to accommodate holiday shoppers. Rachel Geary, communications director at Aldi UK, stated that the closures are a way to thank colleagues. "Christmas is a special time for our customers, but it is also one of the busiest periods of the year for our teams. Our colleagues work incredibly hard to ensure customers can pick up everything they need ahead of the big day. We never take that effort for granted.
